Welcome students! Today, I am going to teach you about what evidence is. Evidence is that which tends to prove or disprove something. You summarize evidence when you use quotes, and put things into your own words. To summarize you break long sentences into smaller one by using your own words. You quote evidence when you are going to use the exact same words from the internet or person. To use a quote you must put quotations around the sentence in the exact same form. You paraphrase evidence when it is a short simple section of text that you can easily put into your own words. To paraphrase you retell the ideas using your own words. To help you remember this, you should study as much as possible because it will really help.

UnGoogleable Research Paper Website Selection Reflection

Today my classmates and I found above grade level websites for our research paper. To search for websites I made sure that I broke down my focus questions as many ways as possible to find lots of different websites. When I found a website related to my focus question, I made sure it was a website that was created by a professor or college student. I made sure there were no advertisements, less opinions and more facts. I knew some of the websites I found were unacceptable because it didn’t have a date or an author and anyone could have updated that website and I wouldn’t have accurate information, I know the websites I selected are good because I made sure it was at least at grade level websites to complete my class work. Tomorrow, I expect that Ms.Priester will tell me to start thinking of how I will write my research paper.

My focus question is “What are the advantages and disadvantages of being in the foster care system? “. I already know that not having your birth parents is a big disadvantage for foster youth. I also know that foster youth are known for “Juvenile Delinquents”. Additionally, most of the kids are traumatized by their past and end up with ADHD. By doing research, I hope to learn if foster youth isn’t such a bad thing after all. I understand the negative parts about being a foster kid but there has to be some positive to get you where you are today.

I chose to write about Disadvantages and Advantages of living in the foster care system. I interviewed Kristen Clabo. She said she would use a website from a scientific journal to find information for a research paper. I interviewed Victoria Skordilis. She said she would read who created the website and the date of the information posted on the website for information on a research paper.  I interviewed Abby Morton. She said she would make sure it was a website that wasn’t editable by the public and only the person who updated it. For example, wikipedia is something she would use.  This advice will help me write my research paper because I know how and where to find the type of information I need.
