"Through the Tunnel" Foster Youth initiation

Even though they don’t have to swim through a tunnel like Jerry in “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing, foster youth are initiated in and out of the foster care system. Foster children move different schools and don’t get their full education. Second, foster kids move from family to family and have to meet new people which can affect the way they bond or the way they treat people. Last but not least, when foster children age out of the system if they don’t have some kind of learning plan, they will be in deep trouble not being taught how to prepare for the real world. As a result of this initiation, students can learn about opportunities they can have outside of the foster care system.
